479th Engineer Battalion
Fort McCoy, WI
Greetings and Salutations
Your letters and care packages were very much
appreciated throughout the deployment. It was nice to
know that someone else (besides our battle buddies and
the local people) appreciated the work that we are doing
over in Iraq. It was especially great that our fellow
citizens also appreciated the work that we are doing in
the name of the U.S.A. The feeling that we get when we
open your letters and boxes of care packages makes it
easier to do our jobs. Due to our efforts, a lot of the
former "hot spots" are not so hot now. I can say that we
left the country in a better place than we found it
when we arrived.
My unit's mission, as engineers, was to help the people
rebuild their country. We did that by teaching the local
people how to rebuild their communities' infastructures.
As the saying goes, "teach a man to fish, and you will
feed him for a lifetime".
I would like to think that the fact that everybody in my
unit that came in to the country, left with our lives is
a testimony to the improving conditions in the country,
made possible by our actions in the country to help
them. I am hopeful that the good work that we have
continued will be continued by our replacements.
Again, I would like to thank you for all that you have
done for us. |
